The Basic 3-2 Setup
This setup is the go-to setup, this is what most team would do on the most of the gun rounds e.g Team Dignitas play this setup on some gun rounds.
In the start of the round 2 guys go long usually 1 AWP and 1 rifle. They get flash by the 3rd teammate on A site so they can hold in case of a rush. Then the AWP-er go to car to hold short/mid. Of course the AWP-er can go wherever he feels like but I think it’s optimally to have the AWP-er on car, then fall back to long when the Ts are pushing short.
- The positive about this setup is 2 of most important choke points are held by 2 players: A long and B tunnels. A holds are very strong and make retake on A easy if you are coordinated enough. Because you will have long control and always make the Ts worry about long.
- The negative is that CT don’t have any mid presence which makes B splits or mid plays in general very powerful.
- 1 on car holding mid/short (optimally an AWP)
- 1 on goose/site holding short
- 1 in pit holding/spotting long
- 1 behind big box/hs box holding tunnel
- 1 in B doors/window spotting mid
2-1-2 Setup
This is a less used setup than the 3-2 setup, 2-1-2 is more used in pugs, but that depends of the teams playing. You would use this when the Ts are on a low buy: Tec9 and armor, and they will most likely rush somewhere. This could also be used in pistol round, against less exercised T teams, because they most likely, just buys armor and rush somewhere. This is also a setup Team Dignitas likes to use, they used most of the rounds this against Orbit and won 16-3 only losing 3 rounds on CT side.
When the round starts you have 2 going long then 1 guy falling back to A site to hold short, 1 spotting mid and short, and 2 going B. The AWP-er should go wherever he feels like, if you have a double AWP setup you could have 1 go long and 1 go B.
- The positives about this setup is you have a strong B hold with 1 guy that can rotate fast from mid, and you can easier hold of a mid to B play.
- The negative is the A defense is weaker, with only 1 guy holding short and 1 holding long. Also the mid guy can get easily taken out if isn’t careful either by an AWP or Tec9 pushing faster than expected through the doors.
- 1 on the corner holding long house
- 1 on slope holding short
- 1 CT middle holding mid door/short
- 1 behind the big box on B
- 1 by the car
Aggressive Short
This setup is what you use when you can’t really make the retakes work on A site from long. So instead of letting them get A from short you stack it with 2 people. However by doing this you leave long poorly defended. On B there are two ways you can play B: either 1 window and 1 mid, or 1 in windows and 1 inside B.
The start of the round 2 guys get boosted up on short to beat the timings in-case the Ts rush it, and the booster go to hold long either from A site or go up to the corner and self-flash to peek. The B guys either go to hold B or 1 stays in mid.
- The positives about this setup is that you will have mid control and fast rotations if the Ts push B site. It’s easy to stop any mid to B split or a short play.
- The negatives, if you decide to have 1 supporting in mid, the B defense will be rather weak, and you will need a couple of smoke grenades to hold the Ts from pushing in. Long defense will suffer as well, but they will problems with crossing from long to slope.
- 1 on short holding catwalk
- 1 on short holding xbox
- 1 passive long/A site holding the corner with an AWP
- 1 playing safe in mid or in B
- 1 in window holding B/mid
Important to note is that no setup is GOD-like you always have to adapt to the enemy's play style also the AWP-er shouldn't play the same position, always switch it up, then the rest of the player should adapt their position.
